We all love to have images with us, as there are so many formats of images are available with us and it becomes very difficult to choose which better image format. There are JPEG (JPG), PNG and GIF as a most common image file format that obviously everyone knows. But do we know what the best one to use always is. Even for graphic designers this question sounds to be hard as it is.
Let’s see the usages of JPEG, PNG and GIF in there most specific ways.
JPEG (JPG) – JPEG is a kind image file, which is developed by Joint Photographic Expert Group. This is a lossy image format type which is used for digital photography. JPEG is the most common type of image file format which is used in cameras and mobiles. If your need is to capture and make dynamic realistic graphical images then JPEG is one of the best image file format. But in text and 2D images JPEG failed to render the accuracy.
PNG – PNG is another kind of image file, which stands for Portable Network Graphics. PNG image file format is used mostly in web or internet. It is raster graphic file format that supports lossless data compression. The advantage of using PNG file format is rendering text and 2D based graphics is more accurate than in any other format. Another advantage of using PNG image file format is that you can make background invisible which cut down the size of images of unnecessary things. For dynamic graphics PNG renders good graphics but the image size becomes too much heavy than JPEG based image file output.
GIF – GIF is one more but different kind of image file, which is used to create a short animation. Yes, GIF images can be animate and it is made up of several images put together in single image file. The color rendering is GIF is not good as JPEG and PNG because GIF is only supported up to 256 colors maximum, but for small pixel sized images and short animated images GIF stands as a very good image file format.
These all are about JPEG, PNG and GIF image file format where all of them is better in the type of use. JPEG is best for natural images like photographs and realistic pictures, PNG is best for text based and 2D or vector images and GIF is good for very small sized images or for short image animations.

Nice informative post.
Thanks Gautam for your feedback…
I agree, I make logos etc. in PNG. But whenever I upload any image on my site I make sure it’s JPEG! It’s much less space consuming!
That is totally best method of utilizing images in most economical ways, because it not only saves the resources of your disk but also less down the data transfer requests.
