And while some redness and swelling are normal, make sure that they are not accompanied by a fever of over 100 degrees and that you do not see any pus coming out of it. Understand How to Manage Your Pain. It’s totally normal to feel a bit of pain and discomfort during the recovery process. That’s why you need to know how to manage it. Deep breathing exercises, repositioning your body and taking anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or Advil can all help to soothe your knee. You might also want to apply some ice therapy to it as well.
Wear Some Elastic Stockings. Something else that you doctor is definitely going to recommend that you do is to wear some elastic stockings on the knee that is healing. They are great because not only do they help to increase the blood flow within your knee, but they can also prevent a blood clot from developing within that area too. It’s best to wear them for the first six days. Just make sure that you remove them twice a day for an hour at a time so that your knee can “breathe”. Know When to Call Your Doctor. And finally, as you’re healing, make sure that you know when it call your doctor. If your knee is infected, if you feel numbness or tingling in that area, if there is a blister on or near the incision, if you have chest pains or shortness of breath or if there is drainage coming from the knee, call your doctor as soon as possible.
