In Microsoft Excel we have an option to change columns heading to numerical digits like 123 or alpha digit as ABC. This switch of columns heading are known as R1C1 reference style. Let’s see how to switch the columns heading by 123 or ABC in excel.

In This method you can change the way excel formula of refer cells. Instead of using letters for columns and numbers for rows, this option enables using numbers for both rows and columns.

A1 R1C1 Style

Here are the steps to changing reference style of excel columns. You just need to follow the steps properly to switch the style between A1 and R1C1.

Change Columns Head from ABC to 123

Open MS Excel » Click on Office Button » Click on Excel Option » Click on Formulas » Check R1C1 Reference Style Box.

By this method to can change the excel column heads to 123 from ABC.

Open MS Excel » Click on Office Button » Click on Excel Option » Click on Formulas » Uncheck R1C1 Reference Style Box.

By this method to can change the excel column heads to ABC from 123.

Conclusion : If you select the R1C1 Reference Style your excel rows and columns both become numerical and you unchecked it again then you will revert back to ABC from 123.

This reference style is useful for making macros and additional tasks. For normal humans like we simple A1 style is better than R1C1 style.
